Lawyers: Firestone pressures plaintiffs
Article Abstract:
Bridgestone/Firestone is allegedly using the threat of bankruptcy to pressure lawyers suing the company into agreeing to a settlement agreement on tread-separation lawsuits. The move is deemed as part of a two-pronged strategy to keep the cases from going to trial. Bridgestone/Firestone has also asked judges in Texas to postpone trials so a state legislator can act as one of its lawyers. Once Bridgestone/Firestone files for bankruptcy, people winning judgments against it could have to wait behind other creditors which could delay payments for years.
