Loewen group's founder steps down from board

Loewen Group Inc has ousted its founder and former chairman Ray Loewen from its board of directors as part of its cost-cutting efforts. According to documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, Loewen and six other directors have been let go so that the financially-troubled company could save. Loewen's departure comes seven months after his resignation in October 1998 as chief executive officer.
