Stock brokerage firms that conduct business on the Internet provide cheaper fees but not as much service as traditional firms. Online firms, however, offer special deals to attract customers, including free first trades. Large trading volume can produce substantial profits for the online firms. Commonwealth Bank sponsors an online brokerage and Australia's second largest online firm, E*Trade Australia, offers deals to attract new customers.
