United talks face big hurdles
Article Abstract:
Continental Airlines Inc states that it might intervene in the negotiation of United Air Lines Inc (UAL) to purchase America West Airlines Inc. This statement by Continental CEO Gordon Bethune came after speculation arose that a merger between UAL and America West will not likely to happen due to antitrust concerns. Continental says it might exercise its special veto power over any deal, including the first right of refusal to purchase Texas Pacific Group's shares. Texas Pacific holds 46.9% of America West's voting shares whereas Continental has 7.9% of the voting shares.
