Mitsubishi alliance may be in works

DaimlerChrysler is acquiring a 33.4% controlling interest in Mitsubishi Motors Corp based on newspaper reports in Japan. On Mar 23, 2000, MItsubishi's board of directors gave Katsuhiko Kawasoe, the company president, to negotiate an agreement with another car manufacturer. Japanese newspapers report that DaimlerChrysler Chmn Juergen Schremp plans to meet with Mitsubishi executives to sign a memorandum of understanding and complete an agreement by May 2000.

Renault pursues deal with NIssan
Article Abstract:
French automaker Renault has proposed to acquire a 35% stake in Japanese auto company Nissan Motor Co Ltd. Nissan has been suffering from more than $30 billion in debt and is seeking for an equity partner. The deal would give Renault a controlling interest in Nissan, and would enable the compay to appoint board members and install a chief operating officer. Renault reported earnings of $1.4 billion and a cash hoard of $2.1 billion in 1998.
