NBC expands 'Friends' to fight 'Survivor'
Article Abstract:
NBC will add another 10 minutes to its top-rated comedy 'Friends,' a move aimed at thwarting CBS' 'Survivor' series, which ranks second to 'Friends' in the ratings chart. 'Friends' would air from 8:00 PM to 8:40 PM ET/PT for four weeks, starting Feb 1, 2001. The new schedule also affects 'Saturday Night Live,' which has been moved to 8:40 PM to 9 PM. The NBC ploy is aimed at preserving its eight-year dominance over Thursday programs and the concomitant advertising revenues.
