Lack of customers shuts down many B2B Internet sites
Article Abstract:
Business-to-business online marketplaces are closing their doors as dot- coms disappear and companies stick to traditional methods of buying supplies. Research firm IDC predicts that only 200 to 300 of the 1,500 existing marketplaces will be in business by 2004. Among the companies that have already either closed down or stopped taking orders are Chemdex, power company Pepco and MaritimeDirect. Other closures include Dell Marketplace, Silicon Valley Oil and FreightWise.
