Nortel in talks with Corning on optics
Article Abstract:
Corning Inc. is in negotiations with Nortel Networks to buy the telecommunications equipment company's fiber optic components unit, valuing the property at more than $100 billion in revenue. The plan, which some feel unwieldy and expensive is for a "reverse merger" which would make Corning a unit of Nortel. In a parallel note, Nortel will spend $1.9 billion to more than double fiber optics production in 4 countries, causing speculation about the seriousness of the deal. Strong rumors abound that Corning also might deal with industry giant Lucent Technologies.
