Congressman links son's suicide to acne medicine
Article Abstract:
Rep Bart Stupak of Michigan is requesting the FDA to investigate if the anti-acne medication Accutane can cause suicidal thoughts. Stupak's action came after his son, Bart Stupak Jr, took his own life at a time when he was taking Accutane. Stupak wants the FDA to take immediate steps to ensure that users of Accutane and their families are informed of drug's possible side effects such as depression, suicidal tendencies and other psychiatric disorders. Hoffmann-La Roche, which makes Accutane, said the particular case but expressed sympathy with the Stupaks.

Estrogen use best at a lower dose
Article Abstract:
The latest research findings indicate that lower doses of estrogen and progestin may be as beneficial as higher doses but without the negative side effects. These include vaginal bleeding, the main reason why US women over 50 who take up hormone replacement therapy (HRT) give up the treatment. Wyeth-Ayerst the leading seller of HRT medication will unveil a lower-dose version of its Prempro drug. Prempro contains the standard 0.625 mg of estrogen and 2.5 of progestin, a hormone that protects the uterine lining in women who have not had a hysterectomy.
