OSC advised to create separate tribunal for securities offences

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) has splitted off its key judicial role by creating a separate tribunal to hear cases involving tribunal to bear cases involving securities violations. The committee concluded that that the OSC appears to have a conflict of interest by prosecuting and adjudicating securities case, which is affecting commission's reputation.

Disclosure rules toughened for firms
Article Abstract:
A new rule has made it mandatory for Canadian firms to disclore more information to their shareholders than what was previously made available. Companies will now have to disclose such information as past directors' and executives' misdeeds.

TSX should lose power to set governance rules, activist says

Claude Lamoureux, a stockholder activist, said that the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) should not have the power to establish corporate governance regulations. Lamoureux said that securities regulators were better fitted for this purpose.
