Olivetti executive to Xerox
Article Abstract:
Xerox Corp announces the selection of Vittorio Cassoni as executive vice president in charge of marketing and document processing technology. Cassoni has experience in the computer field and negotiations in the European Community due to his work with AT and T Data Systems and Ing C Olivetti and Co. Xerox is changing its development strategy by moving strongly into electronic image and document processing, a digital technology that combines all the aspects of printers, facsimile machines, scanners and copiers. This technology is based on computers, a area in which Cassoni will be extremely valuable. Xerox introduced the $220,000 Docutech Production Publisher in Oct, 1991 that can receive electronic document images from remote computers, store them, edit them, share them among other computers and generate high-quality documents at high speeds.

Computer group is preparing to challenge top PC makers
Article Abstract:
A group of computer manufacturers and software publishers that includes Compaq Computer Corp, Microsoft Corp and DEC is banding together to create a new standard for the manufacture of microcomputers. The hope is that the new standard would help unseat the current market leaders, IBM, Apple Computer, and Sun Microsystems Inc. The new technology would be based on reduced instruction-set computing chips such as the R4000 microprocessor from MIPS Computer Systems Inc. These types of chips are faster and simpler than the current microprocessors on the market, because they eliminate many of the instructions built into conventional chips. The new alliance threatens not only the major computer manufacturers, but also the current leaders in microprocessor production, Intel Corp and Motorola Inc.
