On the watch in nursing homes
Article Abstract:
A coalition of advocates for the elderly are seeking for the passage of a federal law that would allow families to install video cameras in 17,000 nursing homes across the US. According to advocates, the `granny cams' might discourage nurses' aides from committing neglect and abuse against the nation's 1.6 million nursing home residents. Meanwhile, nursing home officials said the move is an invasion of residents' privacy and could add to employee stress.

Sentiment on tobacco shifts
Article Abstract:
The $145-billion penalty assessed by a Florida jury on the tobacco industry is seen as a significant shift in the public's attitude toward the issue of smoking. Previous lawsuits against the industry have been won by cigarette manufacturers because most juries see smoking as a matter of choice. The latest verdict cites the tobacco industry for deliberately lying and deceiving the public on the health issues regarding their product.
