Ottawa mulls tax changes for trusts: Treatment of popular investment subject of secretive private sector meetings

The federal Finance Department of Ottawa is holding top-level talks and conducting secretive private sector consultations to decide whether it should get tough on the tax treatment of income trusts in the 23 March 2004 budget. A disaster would be caused in the sector if Ottawa makes any major move, as tax advantages are often the main basis on which income trusts are built.
