Ottawa is planning to put severe restrictions on the kind of health claims that food companies are able to make even as the industry gears up to cash in on the latest weight loss mantra. The soaring popularity of diets such as the Atkins plan and the South Beach regime has led to an explosion of low-carb products in the United States.

Provident Energy warning highlights ownership risks

Provident Energy Trust announced that it was close to the 49% ceiling on foreign ownership. The company said that it may have to cut or roll back the number of foreign residents that hold company units. Provident' could experience tax problems because of the high rate of foreign investors.
