Pace of tech mergers in Mass. gains speed

Boston-area investment bankers reported that technology mergers and acquisitions increased tempo in 2003 compared with 2002. Investment bankers stated that some companies resumed the search for merger partners or purchases by as much as 20 percent or more, while other tech companies were looking to add revenue by buying a rival with a complementary product line to strengthen their competitive prospects by merging with or gobbling up a competitor that cut costs.
