Dispute centers on control
Article Abstract:
The recent dispute between Time Warner and Walt Disney that resulted in Time Warner subscribers' inability to receive ABC for 36 hours is attributed to a fight over control by both cable operators and programmers. Disney reportedly wanted higher fees from Warner for every subscriber who watched its programs. The dispute has a broader context. In a few more years, more competitors, such as satellite broadcasters, telephone companies and other cable operators will be able to improve their video, voice and data services.
