Seagram wants hefty price to let executive go to MGM

Seagram Company Ltd CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr wants global home video rights to 5,000 films of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc (MGM) in exchange for letting Universal Pictures Pres Chris McGurk be hired by MGM as its vice-chairman and CEO. Universal is the movie and video division of Seagram's Universal Studios Inc. Once the deal is realized, Universal would take over foreign video distribution for MGM, which presently does not have its own network.

Imax lands deal to release major Disney film
Article Abstract:
Imax Corp, a moviehouse chain featuring the company's large-screen technology, has signed a deal with Walt Disney Co to be the first chain to show an upcoming Disney animated feature, 'Fantasia 2000.' The deal is Imax's first with a Hollywood studio and could pave the way for mainstream films shot primarily for showing on Imax cinemas. The company had a profit of $800,000 in 1998, down from $20.7 million a year ago.
