Article Abstract:
A powerful earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale cut a swathe of destruction through Kashmir in October 2005, killing more than 20,000 people and destroying millions of homes. The quake and dozens of aftershocks, some nearly as powerful as the initial tremor, destroyed buildings and lives in a 400-kilometer band across India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
