Sock Puppet wins hearts

Pets.com has developed and successfully launched an advertising campaign puppet character which has taken a life of its own and become a popular figure across the USA. The puppet was designed to build the Pets.com brand and appears to have become a pop culture icon, as demonstrated by its fifth-place finish among USA Today publication's Ad Meter survey of compelling Super Bowl advertising spots. The Pets.com Sock Puppet is the latest creation in a menagerie of popular advertising creatures designed by ad agency TBWA/Chiat/Day.

Nike's chain-saw killer ad just doesn't do it for NBC

Nike Inc's television advertisement that features Olympic track star Suzy Favor Hamilton on Sep 17, 2000 was cut from National Broadcasting Co Inc's (NBC) roster of spots approved for Olympic exposure. The commercial in question shows Hamilton escaping from a chain-saw wielding psychopathic killer. According to NBC spokeswoman Maria Battaglia, the spot provoked over 2,000 negative telephone calls for the network to remove it from the rotation.
