Strong credit climate spurs 30% profit gain for BMO

Bank of Montreal achieved a 30 percent increase in annual profit in the year 2004, which was the result of a highly favorable credit cycle. However, loan-loss recoveries and reversals have helped to offset a range of serious challenges, including the slowdown in equity markets, thinning trading revenues and the continued pressure on retail profit margins.
