Sun Life makes bid to buy Clarica

Waterloo, Ont.-based Clarica Life Insurance Co. has received a $6.8 billion acquisition bid from rival Toronto, Ont.-based Sun Life Financial of Canada. Sun Life would become the leading life insurance company in Canada and the fifth-largest life insurance company in North America if the deal is completed.
