Tech firms soon may hire 80,000 more foreigners

Technology firms are supportive of a bill allowing the entry of 80,000 additional skilled foreign workers into the USA yearly. The legislation is aimed at helping ease the shortage of high-tech workers in the country which will cause in vacancies amounting to 800,000. Among the companies wupporting the raising of the cap on temporary visas, or H-1B visas, are Sun Microsystems, Compaq, Microsoft, Intel, Hewlett-packard and America Online.

IBM graffiti ads gain notoriety

IBM has gained notoriety for its Linux operating system advertising strategy. The company's marketing strategy involved painting hundres of 'Peace Love Linux' logos on city sidewalks. Chicago, IL, officials are threatening to force IBM to pay for the cleanup, about $67 each. It may also levy a $50 fine per ad, while San Francisco is threatening fines of up to $500 per ad plus cleanup costs.
