Talent-hungry tech firms fish for younger recruits

International Business Machines Corp (IBM) and a number of high-technology companies have began searching for talents in the junior-high and even elementary school levels. The strategy, which includes IBM's Extreme Blue internship program, is aimed at addressing the nationwide shortage of between 300,000 to 600,000 technology jobs in the US. IBM's 11-week program, which began in Jun 2000, is aimed at finding fresh talents among MBA and computer science students.

IBM counts down to final Olympics

International Business Machines Corp (IBM) will end its 40-year contract with the organizers of the Olympic games on Dec 31, 2000. The computer company, also known as Big Blue, will handle the information-technology requirements of the Olympics for the last time at the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, Australia, from Sep 15 to Oct 1. At the heart of the dispute with the International Olympic Committee is IBM's insistence on exclusive Internet broadcasting rights.
