Tech gains translate into fewer secretarial schools
Article Abstract:
Almost one-third of secretarial and business schools disappeared between 1992 and 1997. Part of the reason given for the decline include e-mail and other technologies. Based on the figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of secretarial jobs dropped from 4 million to 2.8 million between 1989 and 1999. Some of the factors behind the trend are technology and corporate cost cutting, congressional reform and industry consolidation.
