The high cost of giving
Article Abstract:
There are new restrictions on the financial value of gifts from retirees. Although retirees can give any gift to anyone they choose, any gift value over $5,000 will be examined when determining eligibility for pensions. Social Security examines the applicant's income for 5 years before the application date, including assets held during that time. The former gift limit was $10,000.
