The outlook for campaigns is cloudy as marketers reassess spending and agency rosters; one economist says a turnaround for ads is at least 12 months away
Article Abstract:
The economic impact of the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the slowing US economy are still having a decided effect on the advertising economy. The mass media industry is cutting back its ad spending and ad agencies are laying off workers. Ad budgets will be reduced an average of 12% for the 2001 fourth quarter as well as the first quarter of 2002. Economists predict ad-spending growth will begin to recover in late 2002 and early in 2003.
