Thomson buys two U.S. publishers

Canada's electronic publishing giant Thomson Corp., has acquired two United States' publishing companies. They are Lucent Books and Greenhaven Press. Both companies are based in San Diego, California and would be managed by the Gale Group, a Thomson Corp.'s company.

Thomson snaps up U.S. giant

Toronto, Ont.-based Thomson Corp. has acquired Waltham, Mass.-based Primark Corp. for $842 million in cash. Thomson, which is a global electronic information company, also will assume about $235 million of Primark debt.
