N.T.T. of Japan urged to cut connection fees to competitors

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. is under pressure from the government to lower the high connection fees it charges competitors. The U.S. has warned that it will take the matter to the World Trade Organization if N.T.T. does not act. Some fear that N.T.T. may only lower fees if it can have even more power, which may further hamper competition.

Sony Computer Entertainment is expected to halve the import of the new PlayStation 2 game machines for Christmas this year. This shortage will cause difficulty for retailers and their promotion plans for the game player. Some guess that the problem might lay with the production of the semiconductor devices which are vital to the game machine. They don't believe that Sony has the aptitude or the manufacturing power to produce so many chips before the release of PlayStation 2 in December.

Nintendo is reported in talks to buy Sega
Article Abstract:
Nintendo is involved in talks to buy video game-maker Sega for around $2 billion, insiders say. Both firms officially deny that they are in such talks. Sega is in financial trouble due to disappointing sales of its Dreamcast game console, and new, fierce competition from Sony's PlayStation 2.
