Accession to the WTO: current issues in the Arab world
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine legal issues associated with the accession of members of Arab countries to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Arab participation in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and WTO system were also analyzed. Results indicated at least three levels of practice associated with accession to the WTO. Findings also showed that Jordan has embodied a strategic decision to promote domestic and external concerns related to its economy while Saudi Arabia has focused on the bargaining level of accession and is less willing to support the disciplines of the WTO.

Fisheries subsidies, the WTO and the Pacific Island tuna fisheries
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the impact of the disciplines established by the Uruguay Round negotiations and the World Trade Organization on tuna fishing industries in the Pacific island countries. The synergy between environmental movements and developed country fishing countries was also examined. Results indicated that future rounds of negotiating new subsidies will promote access arrangements for a specific period. Findings also suggested the need for fisheries to address conservation concerns, and population and income growth issues.
