Comparing personal and professional characteristics of men and women state executives: 1990 and 1993 results
Article Abstract:
Previous research has noted differences in characteristics between men and women heads of departments in state governments across the US. A study first undertaken in 1990 and redone in 1993 shows that political experience, age, work experience and number of dependent children as the major differences between men and women executives. However, no significant differences can be found among men and women executives when it comes to demographic, political and decision criteria characteristics.

From the productive to the consuming state: what do the statistics mean?
Article Abstract:
The analysis of consumption, savings and investments made by James D. Carroll was based on the aggregate results of individual actions on the global and national levels. The trend is alarming but there is still the need to look at the different components making up the whole. Much of the technological investment made in the US is on defense programs. There is still a need to continue to support these programs particularly those that have duplicate benefits.

Incentives, costs, and barriers for volunteers: a staff perspective on volunteers in one state
Article Abstract:
The various factors which influence volunteerism in a non-profit organization are discussed. Results indicate that there is a delicate balance which exists between volunteers and paid staff members. Studies conducted on the non-profit organization the American Cancer Society, were used as basis for the evaluation of work relationships of volunteers. Paid staff members should ensure the provision of incentives for volunteers.
