Interaction between the economic and political domains is crucial for development and current evidence suggests that a positive association runs from certain types of institutions for political and economic governance to greater economic prosperity. Embedding a vibrant market economy into strong democratic political institutions is the best way to ensure that political and economic empowerment play complementary roles in improving the lives of citizens around the world.
