Jacob Burckhardt: tradition and the crisis of Western culture
Article Abstract:
Jacob Burckhardt, a 19th century philosopher, shared the pessimistic attitude that prevailed in Europe after the French Revolution. Although the revolution brought a crisis in Western culture, Burckhardt's work suggests that art and literature flourishes during crisis. He regarded history as a science of values and choice, and tradition as the main mark of humanity. An elitist and aristocratic in his values and Christian in ethical practice, Burckhardt felt that a religious rebirth would prevent Europe from disaster. He believed that future of a cultural crisis depends on the way a generation stands the test.

Russell Kirk - 1918-1994
Article Abstract:
Russell Amos Kirk started the conservatist movement with the publication of 'The Conservative Mind' in 1953. Kirk, who started his career as an assistant professor of a Midwestern cow college exposed the weaknesses in liberalism, and made conservatism a major force in 20th century America. Kirk was a shy, gentle person, who worked hard to propound the philosophy of intellectual conservatism through his works, and later as the founder editor of 'Modern Age. ' Kirk's scholarly works include 'Randolph of Roanoke' and 'Eliot and His Age: T. S. Eliot's Moral Indignation in the Twentieth Century.'
