The European Community and the legislating of the application and products of genetic modification technology
Article Abstract:
The EC is participating in the legislation of policies on the application and products of genetic modification technology to allay concerns regarding its safety to human health and the environment. Much of the work is carried out by the inter-service Biotechnology Coordinating Committee, which is headed by the EC Secretariat Gen. and consists of the Dir. Gen. of the various departments concerned with the differing aspects of biotechnology. The committee has already issued a policy framework to guide the use of GMT for industrial and research purposes.

Ecological modernisation and institutional reflexivity: environmental reform in the late Modern age
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the environment remain a focal point in the public and political agendas of the 1990s, in sharp contrast to the rapid increase and equally rapid decline in environmental awareness among various peoples and countries in the 1970s. The importance of environmental issues is such that it has even entered the economic agenda. Ecological modernization theory explains economic development in the context of ecological considerations.
