Article Abstract:
Austrian-born economist Leopold Kohr enumerates his reasons on why the Maastricht Treaty will lead to disaster. History shows that the creation of super-states only brought about failure. Small states are much more successful in goal-making and achievement than big states because the former are easier to manage and can be more autonomous.

An American priority: the 'return to Europe' of post-communist states
Article Abstract:
The 'return to Europe' concept, which is prevalent among the post-communist European countries, involves memberships in both the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Of the two, the US has been lukewarm in supporting the former. However, that should be Central Europe's priority.

Umberto Eco, Europe's most famous semiologist, says that a successful European union must also take into account its nations' varied languages and cultures. The people must have a respect for the different cultures and languages in Europe while learning to understand each other.
