Toward GATT-proofing environmental programmes for agriculture
Article Abstract:
Most agricultural policies liberalization schemes adopted by many countries tend to go against internationally accepted environmental standards. To solve this problem and to lessen the incidence of disputes, the World Trade Organization has adopted a checklist of criteria that nations can adopt. These criteria were especially designed in accordance with the environmental regulations and agricultural policies of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.

Trade measures based on environmental processes and production methods
Article Abstract:
Further clarification is needed for a system of trade-related environmental measures to protect nature while facilitating trade. Currently, the World Trade Organization has assumed this responsibility, but it is designed to facilitate trade under GATT rather than possess ecological expertise. The WTO is using standards of environmental processes and production methods. A new institution should be created to develop ecological and trade analyses.
