Towards a beautiful horizon?
Article Abstract:
Representatives from 34 American nations will meet in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on May 16, 1997 to continue negotiating a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) that will include all countries in the Western Hemisphere except Cuba by 2005. The FTAA's goal is to increase business prosperity by expanding trade between American nations without limiting commerce from other areas. The international climate favors the FTAA because so many countries, including the US, seem committed to it, and numerous multinational trade pacts, such as NAFTA, are already in effect between countries within the region.

Towards the global millenium: the challenge of Islam
Article Abstract:
A better understanding of Islam in the West may enable both cultures to face their common global challenges. While the West tends to sensationalize conflict with Islamic countries, Muslims have their own conspiracy theories about the West. Turmoil in Islamic countries may stem from failed Islamic leadership, resulting in frustration and even violence. Muslims should be encouraged to follow their prophet's noble instructions and work with the West for the good of the whole world.
