Unfinished struggle for freedom
Article Abstract:
Akbar Ahmed is misguided in his evocation of a millennial mood to explain the Western conviction of an inevitable conflict with Islam. The unwarranted need for an enemy in a post-Cold War age may be a better explanation for the demonization of Islam. There is no civilizational barrier to a global partnership which would bring changes to the human situation. In fact, Islamic history celebrates the ages of symbiosis and synthesis. Globalization would founder if Western countries succumbed to an ill-conceived idea of the clash of civilizations.

West ignored pleas against India
Article Abstract:
India's nuclear tests could have been averted had the West mediated in the Kashmir conflict with Pakistan. The 50-year-old dispute has been regarded as the crucial factor that could trigger a full-blown war between the two South Asian neighbors, as 600,000 Indian troops maintain their positions in the area. The nuclear tests are now seen as the culmination of a long-standing tension as India and Pakistan try to shore up their defense capabilities and intimidate each other.
