Wave of social protests will roll across Asia
Article Abstract:
The International Monetary Fund's (IMF) efforts to aid the financially troubled countries of Asia are expected to result in a wave of social protests due to the strict conditions that it imposes on loans. An example is the widespread riot that erupted in Jordan when the IMF asked King Hussein for the reduction of subsidies for basic commodities such as bread. It is projected that labor unrest and ethnic tensions will result from the expected measures that the IMF will impose on Asia in return for economic aid.
