Adolescent machine gambling and crime
Article Abstract:
A survey conducted in Plymouth, England, reveals that most of the the teenagers who steal in order to play gambling machines come from disturbed families. The disturbance in the family may be due to the death of a parent or step-parent, or a separation in the family. However, only 4% of the 1851 Juvenile Forms analyzed were of individuals who stole to play the machines. A limitation of the study is that there may be unreported cases of stealing by children whose parents can accomodate the loss of money.
