Annotation: on the grandmothers' role in the adjustment and maladjustment of grandchildren
Article Abstract:
Changing social patterns in Western societies have led to an increased amount of research into non-nuclear family units. One aspect of this has been research into the role of grandparents in the adjustment of children. A review of the research concerning grandmothers indicates that the effect on grandchildren of their involvement is dependent upon a number of factors including the relationship between the mother and the grandmother, and the extent of the mother and child's need. Grandmother involvement can, therefore, have either a positive or a negative effect on children's adjustment.

Self esteem, depression, behavior and family functioning in sexually abused children
Article Abstract:
Observation of the effects of sexual abuse on children and their families once they grew to adulthood revealed that the abused group had more marital breakdown, job loss, intrafamilial communication problems and maternal mental illness. Especially the mothers had more depression, low self-esteem and behavior disorders. The child's relationship with the abuser may be of less concern in treatment than issues of self-esteem, family functioning and depression.

Family contexts, parental behavior, and personality profiles of children and adolescents with Prader-Willi, Fragile-X, or Williams Syndrome
Article Abstract:
Personality profiles for children with Prader-Willi, fragile-X or Williams syndrome have been compared to matched groups attending regular schools, using the California Child Q-Set (CCQ).
