The politics of pay: the use of influence tactics in job evaluation committees
Article Abstract:
A group of 44 job evaluators from eight job evaluation teams were asked to fill out a survey, listing their perceptions of interpersonal influence methods as used in the group dynamics of job evaluation committees. Measures were also obtained for self-esteem, gender, the need for dominance, and the need for affiliation. Multiple regressions suggest a number of substantial ties between variables for individual-difference and the self-reported utilization of interpersonal influence techniques in job evaluation committees. Implications for group dynamics within job evaluation committees are discussed.

Joint responsibility: the relationships between organizational and individual career management and the effectiveness of careers
Article Abstract:
Career literature suggests a joint, employee-organization responsibility for workers' career development. It is suggested in this study that planning and proactivity contribute to career effectiveness. Affective aspects of career effectiveness are enhanced by perceived organizational career management such as career attitudes and identity. Personal planning is also associated with career management. Support is lent to an implicit, untested, and widely-held assumption about the role of organizational career management in individual effectiveness.
