Empirically based assessment and taxonomy: applications to clinical research
Article Abstract:
Empirically based syndromes have large applications in child and adolescent clinical services and research. Standardized methods are applied by the empirically based paradigm to evaluate problem reported by different informants. The taxonomic constructs involving syndromes are deduced by multivariate analyses. Useful alternatives to the subject of research and services are provided by the empirical based approach. An empirically based paradigm for assessment and taxonomy is discussed.

Lessons from the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC): toward a new cognitive assessment model
Article Abstract:
The Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) is the subject of controversy despite the initial attention it received. Many researchers believe that the K-ABC is very similar to traditional IQ tests and the task and scoring systems fail to meet the requirements of specific theoretical models. Criticism is also directed at the validity of test interpretation practices. An alternative assessment model proposed for the evaluation of children with reading disabilities is discussed.

Impact of Alzheimer's-type dementia and information source on the assessment of depression
Article Abstract:
Assessment of the responses of 185 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), 57 patients with Parkinson's disease and 54 geriatric referrals to the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression revealed the unreliable nature of AD patients' self-evaluation of their cognitive status. Collateral informants can aid in accurately ascertaining clinical information of cognitively impaired individuals.
