Family Interactions in bulimia nervosa II: complex intrafamily comparisons and clinical significance
Article Abstract:
A study of patients undergoing therapy for bulimia nervosa through an intensive day hospital program at the Toronto General Hospital, Canada, and their families revealed the patients' appraisals of all scales of the Family Assessment Measure to be enhanced during the course of treatment, while their family members' assessment remained stable prior to and after the treatment schedule. This reflects the psychological impacts of eating disorders on the patients and indicates that they can be mitigated through effective resolution of the symptoms of abnormal food habits.

A case report was examined to determine the extent of renal damage over long time binge/purges in bulimia nervosa (BN) in a patient with BN subsequent to a history of anorexia nervosa. This was found to be first case report of a BN patient with long-term binge/purges who developed 'end-stage kidney' linked to hypokalemic nephropathy and diffuse glomerulosclerosis.
