From "nonspecific factors" to disorder-specific treatments for schizophrenia: commentary on Williams and Collins
Article Abstract:
Social workers Charmaine C. Williams and April A. Collins are to be commended for their thoughtful and insightful study on the subjective experiences of 15 diagnosed schizophrenics. The major findings of their research both confirm and extend the findings derived from previous studies on the experiences of people with schizophrenia. Their findings are consistent with previous theoretical accounts of schizophrenia where the loss and reconstruction of the self were central themes.

Romantic and classic visions in the therapy of psychosis: a personal perspective and evolving theory of schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
Traditions in psychosis treatment can be categorized as either philosophical romantic or classic psychoanalytic vision. Romantic vision employs a longitudinal life-history method, whereas the classic vision emphasize a patient's symptomatology. Romantic vision, however, has a tendency to ignore patient's life problems and description-based approaches may stem the development of theory, abstract conceptualization and inference.

Comprehensive countertransference and comprehensive treatment for the schizophrenic patient: the psychotherapeutic heart of mutative treatment
Article Abstract:
Psychotherapists should acknowledge the conflict between internal, psychological realities and external, reality-oriented processes within themselves. They need to understand the dichotomizing process to address the conflicts within their patients. By recognizing and integrating these tendencies, psychotherapists can provide comprehensive, mutative treatment to schizophrenics.
