His money, her money: recent research on financial organization in marriage
Article Abstract:
The control and allocation of money within the household are investigated to test the concept that the household is an economic unit where there is an equitable sharing of resources. The study focuses on couple-households and on the differences between men and women in their systems of money management. The findings show that equality between higher-income males and lower-income females is greatest when household money is pooled and jointly managed.
