Judging relative importance: direct rating and point allocation are not equivalent
Article Abstract:
Two traditional processes for assigning attributes to numerical values such as direct rating of perceived importance of attributes and allocation of budget points between attributes are evaluated with respect to their recognized relevance. The two methods of point allocation and rating are compared to a perfect model of weighting behavior. Results show that the two tested methods of elicitation are flawed in that either may lead to dissimilar decision weights and may exhibit elicitation-dependent partiality.

Information selection and utilization in hypothesis testing: a comparison of process-tracing and structural analysis techniques
Article Abstract:
Integration of process-tracing and structural analysis techniques proves to be effective in enhancing understanding regarding cognitive processes underlying hypothesis testing. Process-tracing emphasizes that people tend to concentrate more on information that are directly related to the hypothesis being evaluated. Structural analysis, meanwhile, implies that participants' integration strategies are not solely confined to Bayesian procedures.
