Loose associations
Article Abstract:
Thornhill and Thornhill's research on rape degenerates into a mass of loose associations for the following reasons: one, it does not explain how the reproduction of primitive men living in small groups were affected by coercive sex; two, studies of nonhuman primates reveal that the species propagate through a variety of ways used by males; three, how the Thornhills' hypothetical 'psychological adaptation' relates to the present males's psyche is not clearly explained by developmental psychology; and four, predictions about penile tumescence under artificial conditions cannot be derived without specifying the character of the mechanisms and other attributes that go with it.

Selection for rape or selection for sexual opportunism?
Article Abstract:
Three points that contradict the rape-specific adaptation hypothesis is discussed. One, rapists possess marginal reproductive success since women are naturally endowed with mechanisms that favor reproductive dysfunctions when there is sexual distress or force. Two, females have a direct hand in human sperm competition. Studies show that female sexual disinterest also reduces the probability of extra-pair copulations, but, an increased desire for intra-sex copulations positively correlates with female unfaithfulness, thus paternity would be in greater doubt. Lastly, sexual opportunities arouse men and the more consent there is, the more they are aroused.
