Love and dating experience in early and middle adolescence: grade and gender comparisons
Article Abstract:
Studies show that early to middle adolescent females and males actively consider the meaning of romantic experiences and feelings, with each gender having a narrow prototypical understanding of being 'in love.' Girls fall in love less frequently and later than boys, although research suggests that dating activity is widely different for each age of adolescence. Few educational programs target concerns with adolescent romance, while sexuality and dating intervention programs target grade levels despite the different experiences of the adolescents within the targeted group.
