Parent-adolescent dialogues about AIDS
Article Abstract:
Family relations during early adolescence are vital in efforts to prevent the dreaded AIDS. Parents are found to be more mutual with daughters and more directive toward sons in the discussion of the matter. Girls are observed to be more mutual and expressive than boys, since boys are seen as more withdrawn. Student stigmatizing attitudes are found to be associated with low levels of both positive engagement in students and support from parents during the interaction.

The influence of school environment and self-regulation on transitions between staged of cigarette smoking: a multilevel analysis
Article Abstract:
This article investigates the relationship between school environment, self-regulation, and smoking among adolescents. Findings indicate that schools with high faculty involvement and student discipline prevent smoking students from increasing cigarette use and that students with poor self-regulation are less likely to begin smoking in this type of school environment.
