Relations of restraint and negative affect to bulimic pathology: a longitudinal test of three competing models
Article Abstract:
Three conflicting theories regarding the relationship of restraint and negative affect to bulimia nervosa were examined using reciprocal data. One theory holds that bulimic pathology is correlated with restraint and negative affect, another theory contends that this eating disorder promotes restraint and negative affect, while a third theory proposes a reciprocal relationship between bulimic behavior and restraint and negative affect. The findings are discussed.

Clinical characteristics of eating disorder patients who report sexual or physical abuse
Article Abstract:
A study of 712 female eating disordered patients revealed almost one-third and one-fourth of the sample to have suffered sexual and physical abuse respectively. Abused subjects were more likely to report substance abuse, social and behavioral problems. However, childhood abuse was not found to have any major influence on the nature of occurrence of eating disorders in the victims.

Impulsivity as a risk factor for eating disorder behavior: assessment implications with adolescents
Article Abstract:
Three independent studies were carried to determine if impulsivity serves as a risk factor for eating disorder behavior and whether different risk outcomes are obtained depending on the assessment strategy used to measure impulsivity. The results showed that trait impulsivity failed to predict the onset of eating disorder behavior in all three studies.
